Me in the Last Airbender

Me in The Last Airbender

This is a still shot from my screen time in the M Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender where I played an Earth Bender. You can see me holding a jar of flowers while standing next to Noah Ringer.  It actually looks more like a jar of cheese puffs though. It took us at least half hour to setup the shot and we were staring in front of the sun and additional lighting equipment. I had a blast being in the movie and the cast and crew were a lot of fun and nice to be with. Noah is a nice kid and I expect him to have a bright future.

How Do You Know Trailer – Starring Paul Rudd, Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson & Jack Nicholson

August 18th, 2010 No comments

The trailer for my film How Do You Know Trailer (2010) which I am acting in is now released.

How Do You Know is directed and written by Oscar winner James L. Brooks (he’s also co-written 463 episodes of The Simpsons). I must admit, I’m not a big fan of most romantic comedies but this film does look pretty good. There’re also rumors in the film industry that it is a major contender for an Oscar. The cast on board is excellent in Paul Rudd, Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson and of course Jack Nicholson, who previously worked with Brooks on “Terms of Endearment” and “As Good As It Gets” – for which he was awarded Best Actor Oscars both times. How Do You Know is set for release December 17th.

How Do You Know - Reese Witherspoon and Paul Rudd

How Do You Know is a new romantic comedy about a love triangle between professional softball player Lisa Jorgenson (Reese Witherspoon), a failed corporate exec (Paul Rudd), and a major-league baseball pitcher (Owen Wilson).

Please note: There is a history of this film name being changed quite often. Originally, it was titled “How Do You Know”, then it was titled “Untitled James L Brooks” film on set. The studio then forced the director to pick a name to which he chose “Everything You’ve Got”. So it looks like now it is finally officially titled back to “How Do You Know”. How do we know the title for this film will not change again? We don’t. I guess we have to just give it everything we’ve got. 🙂

See you at the movies!

Everything You’ve Got Directed by James L Brooks Starring Jack Nicholson, Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, and Owen Wilson

The film I worked on as a principle role with Jack Nicholson, Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, and Owen Wilson is now officially titled “Everything You’ve Got”. Apparently, the production was tired of calling it “Untitled James L. Brooks Film”.

Everything You've Got James L Brooks Film With Jack Nicholson, Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, and Owen Wilson

Everything You've Got - Jack Nicholson, Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, and Owen Wilson

The film is about on a love triangle between Paul Rudd (George), a white collar exec and Owen Wilson (Manny), a professional baseball player who both find themselves smitten with Reese Witherspoon (Lisa Jorgenson), a woman suffering from a major break-up who comes from a sports crazy family. I played the computer tech guy in a scene with Paul Rudd and Shelly Conn’s character Terry. Brooks is known for making his actors do a lot of takes and I have to say that was true in my experience. I think we must have done up to 50 takes for our scene in an office room at the University of Penn which coincidentally is where I am currently attending graduate school.

Brooks spent five years working on the Everything You’ve Got to come up with a story “rooted in an encounter between two people who meet on the worst night of their respective lives.” The story also presents conflict between a person’s sports career and romantic life.

Brooks researched extensively and interviewed hundreds of women who play sports as well as many different people who run companies in order to figure out which elements will work best in the film. He also became fascinated by the dilemmas of contemporary business executives, who are sometimes held accountable by the law for corporate behavior of which they may not even be aware. This sounds like a film to watch out for around awards time, like several of Brooks’ former endeavors, and I’m definitely excited to see how it turns out.

Brooks’ five previous directorial efforts are “Terms of Endearment” (which won Brooks three Oscars — for best director, best adapted screenplay and best picture), “Broadcast News” (Oscar-nominated for best picture), “I’ll Do Anything,” “As Good As It Gets” (Oscar-nominated for best picture) and “Spanglish.”

Robert De Niro Hunts Bradley Cooper In Limitless

Robert De Niro and Hunt Bradley Cooper In Dark Fields

Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper are shooting the suspense thriller Limitless directed by Neil Burger (‘The Illusionist’) with a screenplay by Leslie Dixon (‘The Thomas Crown Affair’). The production has been shooting in Philadelphia and yes I am a part of this film! De Niro plays a financial mogul, Gennady, hot on the tail of Cooper’s character, Eddie Spinola, who discovers a designer drug that makes him smarter and basically better than the rest of us.

The film will also feature a phenomenon called “trip-switching” where time moves with a stop-motion quality which will be interesting to see on the big screen.

De Niro has several films being released this year, including ‘Little Fockers,’ the indie drama ‘Stone’ and Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Machete.’ Bradley Cooper will next be seen as Lt. Templeton ‘Faceman’ Peck in ‘The A-Team,’ opening June 11th.

Limitless will be released March 18, 2011.

The Last Airbender Super Bowl Spot

February 4th, 2010 No comments

M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender new Super Bowl Spot is now online and you can watch it using the player below. The film is a live action adaptation of Nickelodeon’s animated TV series, opening July 2, stars Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone, Dev Patel, Jessica Jade Andres, Aasif Mandvi, Shaun Toub, Cliff Curtis and Keong Sim.

I’m very excited to see this because it looks very good. I’m hoping Shyamalan didn’t edit my scenes out. He’s very easy to work with. Shoot most scenes in just a few takes and moves very fast. There are rumors about The Last Airbender being a trilogy depending on the success of this film. So make sure you go and watch it so I can be in the sequel!

Law Abiding Citizen Trailer

August 15th, 2009 No comments

This film looks pretty good. We shot on a very cold day in January at City Hall in Philadelphia. Law Abiding Citizen, written by Kurt Wimmer, is about a brilliant sociopath (Gerard Butler) who orchestrates a series of high-profile murders that grip the city of Philadelphia – all from inside his jail cell – and the prosecutor (Jamie Foxx) assigned to his case who realizes he is the only one who can end the reign of terror.

M Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender Film

Paramount Pictures released the first photos from M Night Shyamalan’s new film The Last Airbender. The Last Airbender is based on the hugely popular and successful Nickelodeon animated TV series. The live-action feature film is set in a world where human civilization is divided into four nations: Water, Earth, Air and Fire. I played an Earth bender prisoner with long light brown hair. I wasn’t allowed to blog about it because of the non-disclosure agreement with actors but these images are now authorized to be made public. The Last Airbender is expected to be a trilogy. The first episode is not expected to be released until June 2010. You can see the first trailer of The Last Airbender in the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen opening.

Noah Ringer As Ang, The Last Airbender

Noah Ringer As Aang, The Last Airbender

Noah Ringer plays the lead character Aang, the “Last Airbender.” Working with him was great. He is a very mature 12-year-old regional karate star was who discovered in a Texas when his instructor sent in a video tape audition. Dev Patel from Slumdog Millionaire plays Prince Zuko, leader of the Fire Nation.

Ang - The Last Airbender

Aang - The Last Airbender

The Fire Nation is  an oppressive race with powers to control flame. They are waging a war against the other three nations. The film’s hero, the reluctant young Aang, is the “Last Airbender”. Aang is the Avatar who, according to prophecy, has the ability to manipulate all of the elements and bring all the nations together. Aided by a protective teenage Waterbender named Katara (Nicola Peltz) and her bull-headed brother Sokka, Aang proceeds on a perilous journey to restore balance to their war-torn world.

Here are a couple of interesting facts about the film’s two main stars:

  • Noah Ringer’s nickname at school was “Avatar” because many people thought he looked like the character that he now plays in the movie. Life is very funny in that way isn’t it?
  • Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel, who plays Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation; earned his black belt in tae kwon do before getting into acting, and started watching the animated television series while filming Slumdog.

I wish I could write more about behind the scenes but I just can’t because of the non-disclosure agreement. I can say that it was a joy waking up at 3am to catch a 5am tour bus for an hour long drive to the elaborate custom made set for the Earth Benders. All the actors and crew were great to work with. It has been several weeks since I wrapped up shooting my scenes and still have these funny tan lines on my feet due to the costume.

Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film As Fun and Watchable

May 6th, 2009 No comments

I think this is hilarious. I am want to watch it even more now. I’ve always been a Star Trek Next Generation Fan. Not much for the other series or movies. This film looks very promising though. Man, Summer 2009 has got some great films!

Star Trek brings Kirk and Spock center stage and tracks the origins of their friendship and how they became officers aboard the Enterprise. Other crew includes McCoy (Karl Urban), Uhura (Zoë Saldana), Scotty (Simon Pegg), Sulu (John Cho), and Chekov (Anton Yelchin). Their adventure goes from Earth to Vulcan. It also features Leonard Nimoy appearing in scenes with his younger self through a time travel subplot. The storytelling is newbie-friendly, but it slyly assimilates a wide range of Trek arcana, from doomed Captain Pike (Bruce Greenwood) to Sulu’s swordsmanship to classic lines like, ”I have been, and always shall be, your friend.” More ambitiously, the movie subversively plays with Trek lore — and those who know it.

The new Star Trek (Release 5/8/2009) is a reboot directed by JJ Abrams (LOST, Cloverfield, Mission Impossible 3).

Jamie Foxx Stalker Arrested

Jamie Foxx

Jamie Foxx was recently a victim of a non Law Abiding Citizen while shooting his film with Gerard Butler Center City Philadelphia. On March 22, a 48-year-old man allegedly broke into Foxx’s hotel room claiming to be Beyonce’s producer. Foxx overpowered the intruder and forced him out and shut the door. The man then escaped from the cops.

However, nine days after the incident, Foxx’s security staff saw the man and contacted police.  The alleged intruder is identified as Steven Taliver and has been charged with burglary, criminal threats, stalking, false imprisonment and harrassment according to TMZ. Can we add poor impersonation to the list?

Foxx commented on the incident to Access Hollywood, “I’m good now.”

“Sometimes you have to make sure every move you make in life is the right thing, and that you have people there to watch your back,” Foxx added.

The 41-year-old Academy Award-winning actor is in Philadelphia filming the crime thriller Law Abiding Citizen.

HEROES Ali Larter Escapes the Matrix

My Delta Dreams song Escape The Matrix was listed in SHAPE Magazine on with Ali Larter (OBSESSED / HEROES / Final Destination actress) on the front cover. The song was part of a monthly work out playlist.

The funny story is that I did not even know about that until a fan sent me a MySpace message. She said she was on the treadmill while reading the magazine and had to do a double take.

What a better way to wake up in the morning and seeing your music in a magazine with Ali Larter on the cover eh?

The music playlist is listed on page 148 in March 2008 Issue. The music is part of a 30 Minute Work Out Playlist. Other artists include Arctic Monkeys, Bruce Springsteen, Shooter Jennings, Louis XIV, White Rabbits, and Stacie Rose.

Shape Ali Larter (OBSESSED HEROES) and Delta Dreams

Escape The Matrix was originally meant to be a mega mix of my songs from the Dream In Stereo album put to a dance and drum and bass beat. It features some melodies, vocal samples, and atmospheres from the other songs.

I recorded it using the software based sequencer Cubase VST and had several other songs opened at the same time. I was almost done with it when I accidentally overwrote the track with one of my old songs. I lost 4 days worth of work! I was never so disappointed in myself. I got back on the wagon and it took me just 2 days to redo everything.

The brightside is that the song ended up being used on 2 major films:

  • Searching For Paradise (HBO/Sundance) featuring Chris Noth (Mr. Big from Sex and the City / Law & Order) and Susan May Pratt (Drive Me Crazy) about a crazy girl obsessed with an actor. It was someone autobiographical according to the writer and director. You can hear it in the NYC subway and park scene.
  • Double Dare – a double-barreled, action-packed documentary about two Hollywood stuntwomen, Jeannie Epper and Zoe Bell. Jeannie, who refuses to retire at sixty-two, doubled for Wonder Woman in the 70’s, and Zoe landed the coveted job doubling Xena at the age of eighteen as well as Uma Thurman’s double in Kill Bill. You can hear it during an Award Ceremony scene with Zoe being drunk. I met both Jeanie and Zoe at the film screening in New York City and must say they were both very wonderful. Zoe has a larger than life personality and I remember asking her if she was ever interested in acting. She said she never thought about it. Next thing I know she is a lead in Quentin Tarrantino Death Proof. Jeanie was very nice and it a pleasure hearing her stories over drinks.

So the moral of the story is to NEVER GIVE UP on ANYTHING you BELIEVE in!  One thing leads to another and you just never know.
