25 Random Things
I recently got tagged on Facebook with 25 things. I thought it would be more fun putting it here.
- The longest time I went without sleep was 5 days. I did this this twice.
- I never did illicit drugs and that includes marijuana. Should I try it?
- I have been taken by police several times but never charged. I was always able to talk my way out of it.
- I was born in the Year of the Dragon. Attended Drexel University whose mascot is a Dragon. I graduated in the Year of the Dragon as well.
- When I was little, I wanted to be a music producer. Now, I want to achieve Self-Actualization.
- I play 3 instruments: piano, guitar, and drums. I was mostly self taught with the guitar and drums. I also played the baritone when I was 12 -14 years old.
- My most creative zone was writing, recording, and distributing a 13 song album in 36 hours called “Selected Music For Films Vol.1″ under my Delta Dreams moniker. It was one of the most liberating creative moments.
- One of my favorite past times is to just go running outside. I love how pure it is connecting with nature through my feet and in my lungs. It’s a nice way to disconnect and decompress.
- All the music and lyrics to my song “Dream In Stereo” came to me at once in a dream.
- I sent my childhood music idol Alan Wilder (former member of Depeche Mode responsible for their sound) my Delta Dreams music CD. He responded with a letter and autographed picture saying how much he liked it and appreciated the female vocalists. It was one of those “dream come true” moments for me to be able to connect with such an influential icon of mine.
- A priest once complimented me on my smile at a diner and then asked me to go see a movie to which I replied “Nah..I’m good”. That movie was Doubt about a priest being accused of molestation.
- I don’t believe in Karma. Bad things happen to good people, and good things happen to bad people. You should do good because it’s a good thing. Don’t do good things to expect some arbitrary reward. You will often be disappointed.
- Everything surrounds me and good work rise from me of their own accord. It is not my head that functions but something else. Something higher. Something far and remote. I have great friends there. Dark as well as bright. They are all very kind to me.
- I made up an acronym for M.U.S.I.C. It’s the Meaningful Understanding of Sound In Context. I think that sums up my approach to writing and producing music.
- When I was little, I always thought cats were female and dogs were male.
- I got Lasik several years ago and it was probably one of my best decisions I made.
- Most people think that I came up with the name Delta Dreams originally to mean “change” in “dreams” or “goals”. That is partially true. I actually lifted it up from a Brian Eno song called “Delta Rain Dreams” listed on an ambient compilation CD. It’s also a throwback to one of my favorite bands Depeche Mode which is French for fast fashion. Likewise, I wanted a name that is progressive. I am now, however, recording and releasing music under my real name now and use Delta Dreams for collaboration and remix projects.
- I played tennis all 4 years in highschool. We were literally the worst team in the NJ state. I also wrestled from 7-9th grades.
- Watching Michael Bay’s Transformers live action movie was a dream come true. As a kid, I never thought they would be able to make a live action Transformers movie look real.
- I once had a Final Destination moment of vision while heading towards the airport. I envisioned missing my flight and the plane crashed with no survivors. My family thought I died because there happened to be another Quang Ly that was on the flight as well. So when I checked in. The attendant said to me that I already checked in. I said “No I didn’t. And he said there was another Quang Ly on board as well. I really contemplated whether to go on that flight. I finally did and it was the scariest and bumpiest ride ever.
- Commitment comes when you’re down, not when you’re up.
- Stand up comics are God’s gift to the earth.
- I have a legitimate fear of dolls.
- When I was little, I perceived letters and numbers to have gender. For example the letters C,D,E,F,G,J,L,N,Q,R,S,T,U,X,Z were male. The female letters include A,B,H,I,K,M,O,P,V, and W. “1, 2, 3, 5, 7″ were male. “0, 4, 6, 8, 9″ were female. I met one other person who was like this too. They also have their own personalities.
- High maintenance is not the same as high society.
I saw numbers and letters as having genders, too.
Male: BCEGHIMNOQSTUVWXZ; 2356890
Female: All the rest
Screwed me up in Kindergarten, all the vowels were females and all the consonants male in the lessons.
@Calvin
We should form a club. Letters and numbers also have their own personality for me.
Number 11 is pretty funny! I pity you
